1. Step 1 Selection
Saturday August 11
1:30 PM - 4:00 PM
Come for a family friendly education sail on the Sigsbee, everyone 8 years and older are welcome!*
Our program offers participants the opportunity to think like ship captains and marine biologists as we sail around the Inner Harbor. Participants will work together to raise and lower sails, perform scientific tests, and explore the commerce, history, natural resources, and ecosystems of the Chesapeake Bay.

In smaller groups, participants will test water quality, study plankton under a microscope, learn to navigate the boat, and dissect an oyster. Together we will trawl for marine life and identify and study the wildlife caught. Participants also get to compete in a buoyancy challenge where they build their own boats and test their ability to stay afloat.

* Anyone 8 years - 12 years old MUST be joined by an adult.

Sigsbee will set sail promptly at 1:30 pm. Please arrive to the dock by 1:10 pm so you don't miss the boat!

** Sigsbee can make accommodations for those with physical and cognitive disabilities. Please share this information during registration so that our staff can prepare properly. Please let us know of any specific needs including, but not limited to: wheel chair use, crutches, vision/hearing impairments, learning challenges, etc. We want to make sure that this day is as inclusive, fun, and safe for everyone on board.

You can contact Kelly Drake (kdrake@livingclassrooms.org) if you have any questions or concerns about the sail.
